SCHOOL VISITS
Although I live in the south of England, I'm available for school visits to secondary schools throughout the UK.

"Thanks for making our World Book Day so special this year. The students were really enthused by your talk – we have never sold so many books at an event. The two workshops were also brilliant with the students involved really buzzing afterwards. A great day all round!"

What Students Say
"I thoroughly enjoyed
listening to Jane as she was very fun and animated and had a great sense of
humour! I could really see her love and passion for books and reading!"
"She was very animated. She had a new approach to the
teaching of descriptive writing."
"She was
really good. She had interesting things to say about writing and the ideas
behind her book."
What I Do
I specialise in writing workshops, helping KS3 and KS4 students develop their imaginations and use precise and exciting language choices to bring their writing to life. I am a former teacher, with experience in both English and drama, and use (among other techniques) drama tools such as role-play and hot-seating to help students develop vivid fictional settings, characters and conflicts.
Workshops can be geared to a school's needs--are you interested in engaging "reluctant" writers and readers? Would you like to raise students' attainment on core exam pieces? Do you want to widen and enhance the range of creative experiences for your students? Do you hope to develop your students' confidence and self-expression?

7th Grade Students, Peterson High School USA |
I love helping students explore new worlds and experiences through creative writing, but I'm also happy to give entertaining (!) talks to whole-class assemblies or other larger groups. I can focus these talks on my own life and career, or use the characters and issues in "At Yellow Lake" to explore ideas about identity, culture and family.
What I Charge
I generally quote the
Society of Authors recommended rates for author visits but can be flexible.
